I grew up in London and a friend lived a few
houses away from here. It used to have a bar billiards table we used a lot
in the late 70s and 80s – so much that when they got rid of it they offered
it to us free (regets, ive had a few). they also did great cheap pints of
lime and soda when I motorbiked over. |

I was friendly with Jennifer and Marion the granddaughters of the
publicans Fred and Bella Pyke and daughters of Topsy. I often wondered
what happened to them, does anybody know.. |

Employed as a live-in Bar Cellerman. The licensees were a couple, Nigel
and Gaynor Little. The pub was used as accomodation on the 1st and 2nd
floors for Bass Charrington directors. The licensee lived on the top
floor. I was given a room round the back behind the kitchen. In 1975
Charringtons employed a toff who ripped out the rear dining room to
"update" it and managed to kill off the food business overnight. |
