Portland Arms, Notting Hill

The Portland Arms was situated at 119 Portland Road. This pub closed c1992 and is now used as a beauty salon. It doubled as the Winchester Club in Minder, series 2,4, 5 and 6.

I grew up in London and a friend lived a few houses away from here. It used to have a bar billiards table we used a lot in the late 70s and 80s – so much that when they got rid of it they offered it to us free (regets, ive had a few). they also did great cheap pints of lime and soda when I motorbiked over.

Ian Woodley 1948/1963 I was friendly with Jennifer and Marion the granddaughters of the publicans Fred and Bella Pyke and daughters of Topsy. I often wondered what happened to them, does anybody know..
Raymond Malik 1974/1975 Employed as a live-in Bar Cellerman. The licensees were a couple, Nigel and Gaynor Little. The pub was used as accomodation on the 1st and 2nd floors for Bass Charrington directors. The licensee lived on the top floor. I was given a room round the back behind the kitchen. In 1975 Charringtons employed a toff who ripped out the rear dining room to "update" it and managed to kill off the food business overnight.
