I was a customer many times at this pub. It was a major
place to visit for Airmen of the United States Air Force from RAF
Croughton and RAF Upper Heyford. I was a Sgt in the USAF stationed at
Croughton. Many Yanks learned to play darts and drink English beer and
ale at this pub. My favorite was Watney's Brown Ale. |

I was Stationed at RAF Gaydon My friends and I went there
on Friday evenings. The popular song on the Juke Box was Woollie Bully.
I met many USAF guys from Croughton Air Base. Good memories of the
establishment. Later in the evening we went to a hop at The Gaff. My pal
from Bermondsey was called Bob Gaff. However his name did not gain him
free entrance. |

This was my home pub. At that time
knobby was the publican. I was stationed at RAF Croughton and adopted
this pub almost a month after arriving in the U.K.. I visited a large
number of pubs before settling on the Woolpack. I dated a girl, Heather
Dawn Phillips, from Hook Norton and we spent many a night in there. I
was sad to hear that it had closed after so many years. Loved the darts,
whist, and ‘family’ there. |
