The Winchelsea Arms was situated on the Great North Road. Later known as The Ram Jam Inn this establishment was frequented by highwayman Dick Turpin in the 1700s.  American soul singer Geno Washington named his backing band (the Ram Jam Band) after the establishment. This pub closed in 2013 and was demolished in 2015.
