Hen & Chickens

Hen & Chickens, Birmingham, B12

The Hen & Chickens was situated on Moseley Street.  This pub is now used as a music bar.

This was the regular pub for people who worked just the other side of the Moseley Road in the DHSS office (where I worked from 1975 - 78). It had two tiny bars - a public (which I never went into) and a lounge which was where we frequented. They served sandwiches to order, mostly pretty basic stuff as I remember in the form of conventional ’sarnies’ but also filled rolls which went down very well! It was a convenient spot for lunch, but also as a ‘jumping off’ point if we were going out somewhere straight from work.

In the late 1990’s the pub was refurbished and extended and returned to the name The Hen & Chickens from being called The Brewers Arms. It had been refurbished in the late 1980’s or early 90’s and the name changed from the Hen & Chickens to the Brewers Arms. Also known as Clearys.
