Three Tuns

The Three Tuns was situated on Devizes Road. This pub closed in 2010.
An ex Morrisons Local store. The 140 Morrison's convenience stores were sold in September 2015 after the chain had made a trading loss on them for a couple of years. This is the rebranded result. The name of the pub can be seen in the brickwork on the gable end. The front has Kingsdown Ales & Porter in the three brick recessed panels. I can remember the landlord in the late 60s and early 70s , Eddie Bye, having a noisy parrot in the bar; so I used to use the lounge on the odd occasions I visited the place.

Now used as a Coop and Post Office, they take in small parcels for delivery by Royal Mail with a Cash Machine outside.

My great great Grandfather was Thomas Carpenter, landlord of the Three Tuns in the early 19th Century, probably about 1830. He married Rose Buckland who was a Gypsy & I was told that both families were horrified. I imagine it must have caused a bit of a sensation in Wroughton as well !
My Great Grandfather (their son) was coachman to the Goddard family in Swindon.
