The Rose & Crown was situated on Halifax Road. This pub was present by 1881 when the publican was Jachin Firth.

This was a regular haunt for me and my mates in the early 1970s. It was always packed even though the beer was rubbish - it was after all the era of keg beer ( Double Diamond, Watney's Red Barrel, Wothington E) but the music was great. I remember you could almost lean over at 45 degrees without falling over, as you were stuck to the carpet by some glutinous, sticky mass  - spilled beer I assume/hope.
