Crown Inn

The Crown Inn was situated at 21
Meadowhall Road. This pub closed in 2023 and has been converted into a
kitchen appliance/bedroom furniture sales room.
A former landlord/owner (circa 2006 to 2009) was ex-Sheffield Wednesday
footballer David "Bronco" Layne, who was one of three Wednesday players
(with Peter Swan and Tony Kay) found guilty of betting against Wednesday (vs
Ipswich 1962) in the British Football betting scandal of 1964, and jailed
and banned from football for life. However, the ban was lifted 8 years later
and though he re-joined Sheffield Wednesday, Layne never gained a place back
in the team. |
