The Boot

The Boot was situated at Littledown.
I used to go to the Boot Inn when I was living in the manor house at Linkenholt in 1967/1968, when it was a tutoring business run by a Mr and Mrs Hermann Watts. They had about 10, or so, students preparing for their G.C.E., as it was at the time. We used to ’sneak’ out and go for a few pints. As I recall it was run by a Mary Jones. I went back recently, and the pub is now a private home. The owner showed us around. It was very nostalgic as even though the village didn’t have many inhabitants it seemed to fill up in the evenings with patrons, especially on Friday or Saturday nights. Mary Jones made the best Scotch Eggs I have ever tasted. I recall the framework for the sign ’The Boot Inn’ was on the roof and the new owner’s dining table was the backing for the ‘old’ dart board.
