Red Lion Inn

The Red Lion Inn was situated at 3 Market Place, having closed in June 2009. The building is grade-II listed and dates from the 18th century. It was present as a pub by 1794 when the landlady was Elizabeth Winter. A business now operates from the premises.

Listed building details:
Public House. C18 but remodelled. Local stone, cut and squared; plain clay tile roof with simple gable and abutment; brick chimney stack. 2 storeys with attic, 2 bays. Large 4-pane sash windows set  flush, with moulded timber surrounds, under exposed timber lintels; single-storey bay window with flat roof to bay 2; between windows simple doorway with timber lintel, and above a hanging sign on wrought iron bracket; central pitched roof dormer with small 2-light casement window. Interior not seen. Open as an Inn by 1794.
